OLG has teamed up with The Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom to offer free breakfast to all of the students in our school. The Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom is a consortium of national education and nutrition organizations, including the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) Foundation, the National Education Association Health Information Network (NEA HIN), and the School Nutrition Foundation (SNF).
Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast at the start of their school day have higher math and reading scores, have broader vocabularies, and perform better on standardized tests. They focus better and behave better. Children are less likely to be absent. They’re less likely to see the school nurse and less likely to be overweight.
The Breakfast in the Classroom initiative takes the traditional school breakfast approach and improves it with one key ingredient: the classroom. Breakfast is available to all OLG students free of cost, and it’s served each morning at 8:15 a.m.
